Tetu, one of the six constituencies in the former larger Nyeri district, is now a stand- alone district in the heart of the Kenyan highlands of Central province.

Tetu Constituency is the home of the fierce freedom fighter, Dedan Kimathi Waciuri.

A member of the Mau Mau freedom fighters, Mr. Kimathi led troops who waged a sustained war against the British colonialists.

Born in Thegenge location, Tetu West division, Mr. Kimathi went to Karuna-ini primary school (Muhoyas Location) at age 15. He later joined Tumutumu CMS school for his intermediate education but dropped out for lack of funds.
